We are always looking for the quick fix trying to find ways of making our lives more simplified and easy. When it comes to weight loss you have to be patient, focused, and disciplined. Anyone can achieve their goals if they follow these basic fast weight loss secrets and apply them to their daily routine. For faster weight loss include a program of choice and you will start to lose the unwanted pounds.

Fast Weight Loss Secrets #1

I’m sure you’ve heard this over and over again but here it is again. In order to lose weight you need to consume fewer calories than your body needs. Sounds easy enough but for some it is easier said than done. That is where discipline comes into the picture. If you really want to lose weight watch what you eat and keep it healthy.

Fast Weight Loss Secrets #2

Don’t miss any meals. Skipping meals actually is counter productive in weight loss. Your body’s metabolism slows down in an effort to conserve energy when you skip meals. We all have an internal mechanism that senses when our body is deprived of nutrition and when this happens it holds on to as many calories as it can in an an attempt to fend off starvation. It is best to have your 3 main meals as light meals and then include a mid morning and mid afternoon snack to hold you over. This gives you a good balance in calorie intake.

Fast Weight Loss Secrets #3

Keep more fruits and vegetables on hand. Fruits and green vegetables are a great source of fiber and water. Since they are low in calories and fat they give our bodies a good balanced diet with healthy nutrients. Plus the water content makes us feel full.

Fast Weight Loss Secrets #4

Get a good nights rest. Preferably 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Sleep deprivation increases hunger and appetite. This is the most effortless weight loss secret of them all. Do not misinterpret the power of getting enough sleep.

Fast Weight Loss Secrets #5

This last weight loss secret falls into the same category as fast weight loss secrets #1. You’ve heard it over and over again. Exercise. Diet and exercise are the critical components to weight loss. Regular exercise should be a part of everyones daily routine. It doesn’t have to be a rigorous workout. Something as simple as a 30 minute walk every day or even 4 times a week. It is best to make it a daily routine for best results with achieving your weight loss goals.

Now that you know the fast weight loss secrets it is time to start making them a part of your everyday life. Any good weight loss program should make the fast weight loss secrets a part of their program. If they make promises of weight loss with no exercise or no special diet be wary. As always before you start any weight loss program be sure to research the program before you go spending your hard earned money.

Insider Secrets to the Business of Teaching Yoga (Part 1)

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

If you are a Yoga teacher, or thinking about becoming a Yoga teacher, the concepts contained within this series will save you money and, potentially, earn you a lot more money. How much money you want to earn as a Yoga teacher, is up to you. If you are willing to put in your time, marketing your Yoga teaching skills, the sky is the limit. None of us has to teach Yoga; we choose to teach Yoga because we love it and know the many rewards of steady Yoga practice.

That is why I pass on Yoga Business and Marketing information to my Yoga teacher interns, friends, peers, Yoga coaching clients, and competitors. Many great Yoga teachers are guilty of unwise business decisions, and desperately scratch out a living, without the proper business skills.

Speaking of Yoga business competitors, you would be better off to network with other local Yoga teachers. Some of the neighboring Yoga studios, in Providence, RI, refer prospective Yoga students to me, and I do the same for them. You can’t fill every Yoga niche and do you want to really try? Even McDonald’s has a limit on the menu and we can all learn from this. Better to do one or a few things very well, than do nothing well at all.

“Yoga Business” – Is this an Oxymoron, a Conflict of Interest, or Blasphemy? Do you feel guilty taking a Yoga students’ money? Why should you? What do your Yoga students expect you to live on? Would you feel bad paying for scuba lessons, skiing instruction, golf instruction, or a day with a fishing guide?

Of course not – because these instructors put in the time, practicing a skill, and are worth the money you pay them. If you have Yoga students who do not appreciate your skills in the same way – refuse to teach Yoga to them. You put in 200 or 500 hours of Yoga teacher training, worked on refining each aspect of teaching Yoga, and invested years of training as a Yoga student before that.

Yoga instructors deserve to be paid well. Continuing education courses for Yoga teachers, Yoga retreats, workshops, Yoga teacher seminars, books, Yoga correspondence courses for instructors, and Yoga videos are rarely free. If you join a local Yoga teacher association, or decide to become a registered Yoga teacher, that’s not free either.

So, where does all this guilt about taking money for your Yoga teaching services come from? It comes from being a “giver.” Yoga teachers are some of the biggest givers I have ever met. Which is nice, and restores my faith in humanity, but Yoga teachers are also supposed to be a living example of quality life. You cannot support your family, pay your rent, eat properly, or receive medical care by teaching Yoga for free.

Yoga Secrets To Improving The Mind And Body

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Before you begin to learn yoga you must first decide what you are hoping to learn from yoga. The simple fact is yoga can provide many benefits on the body and mind.

If fitness is the sole aim of why you wish to practice yoga then you will leave your mind closed of to the benefits that it can have on you mentally. If you decide to perform yoga for the sole reason of gaining spiritual enlightenment and the positive effects it can have on you mentally then the fitness aspect may not be exploited to its full potential.

What I would recommend and believe everyone who is interested in taking up this practice is to enter it with an open mind. Learn the basics to yoga first and then as you become more adapt to the postures, poses and mental side that it teaches then and only then will you begin to expand and reap the full benefits of yoga.

Many practitioners of yoga often talk about it uniting the mind, body and spirit through the practice of yoga exercises. I am not saying this is a false statement as I do belive that it can reap those benefits, but many people who enter into yoga for the first time have a perception that they will gain this enlightenment and benefits instantly.

Where as the truth is that it takes many years of practice and dedication to reach these levels. When you start performing yoga for the first time you will begin to notice a difference, but it is essential that you take it a small step at a time. There is a reason that yoga is the oldest existing (what I like to call) mind and body system around, this is due to the fact that it helps to aid in providing a great level fitness, has known health benefits and can help in improving a persons mental state.

One of the main reasons why yoga has such a huge benefit on the body is because it stretches the muscles therefore when you perform a yoga workout it would have a similar effect of a massage which will ensure that the ideal blood supply can be reached by every organ.

The beauty of yoga is that there are many different forms which gives everyone the chance to find what one suits them best. Don’t just set your mind on one type of yoga, try out a few different routines, see which one suits you best.

Different forms of yoga can effect different people in many different ways. So make sure to find out which type will provide the maximum benefit on your mind and body. Yoga can be a very strenuous exercise so make sure that you do not push yourself to much when you start of. This can result in an injury. So take your time to build yourself up and when you feel extremely comfortable then begin to push yourself more.

Below are a list of the most common yoga practices

Ashtanga (Also known as power yoga) – Perfect for the person who wants a very hard workout session. It concentrate less on meditation and more on tough physical exercise.

Iyengar – This is a classical form of yoga and is seen as the best starting block for beginners. Many props are used in this yoga style.

Bikram – Must be carried out in a room that is over 38C or higher. There are 26 postures that are carried out in a specific order.

Hatha – Very chilled out form of yoga which focuses on poses that flow from to another at a very easy pace.

Kundlini – Includes mantras, visualizations, guided relaxation and meditations.

Kripalu – A flowing and meditation orientated. There are 3 stages and the person will perform from stage one to stage three.

Sivananda – This type of yoga consists of a series of 12 poses

Viniyoga – This form helps to develop strength balance and healing. This is probably the most ideal form of yoga for elders, beginners and people with muscle injuries

Raja-yoga – This is aimed at people who are capable of intense concentration

Bhakti-yoga – Helps a person to gain focus on self surrender when in the face of the divine

Mantra-yoga – This is a meditation like yoga which focuses on the verbal repetition or can be mental to empowering sounds such as (om and ram)

The top five are the most commons forms of yoga. Remember if you do decide to try yoga out, take your time, do not push yourself to hard at first, enter into it with an open mind and find out what type of yoga suits you best.

How many times have you been able to lose weight or been successful on your weight loss program only to fall back into old patterns and abruptly put weight back on? The real secret to successful and long term weight loss is making permanent changes in relation to what you eat and how you exercise. All health experts agree that even a 5% to 15% weight loss will not only improve your health but increase the quality of your life.

You weight loss or gain is based on the amount of calories you consume daily and the amount of calories you burn off in a day. Simply put, a calorie is the amount of energy in food that is available through digestion. Ergo, to lose weight, and keep it off, you need to create a weight loss program or diet plan that includes taking in less calories than you use and combine it with regular physical activity.

There are many weight loss diets that limit your portions and you will lose weight but you are not satisfied with the meal selection over the long term and subsequently retreat to old eating habits. Design your own diet that includes a variety of foods you enjoy but also supply enough calories and nutrients to maintain proper nutrition. Include fresh vegetables, fruit, fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products along with whole grains. Choose meats that are lean and eat chicken, fish, eggs, beans and nuts. Lay off the sugar and look for food that is low in saturated fat, trans fat and low in cholesterol.

You may not want to hear this but to lose weight and keep weight off you will have to include moderate daily exercise into your “keep it off” weight loss plan. Thirty minutes of moderately intense exercise daily, or close to daily, is necessary and combined with your weight loss diet will prevent the weight from coming back. You don’t have to do 30 minutes at one time. Break it up into three 10 minute sessions or two 15 minute sessions. The key…Do It!

You are well aware there are hundreds of weight loss programs available and enough diet books to fill a 1000 warehouses. When choosing your initial weight loss product or weight loss program be aware that safe weight loss programs and diets will offer books, pamphlets, and other material written by professional in the weight loss field. A safe weight loss program will offer qualified information about healthy eating plans and will advocate daily exercise. If you choose to buy prepackaged meals, be careful as they can be very expensive.

If you are overweight and in need of a weight loss program I urge you to take action today. If you have lost weight and want to maintain your weight loss follow the simple plan I have introduced. Whatever the case, here’s to your continued sojourn to a healthier, wealthier, happy life. For recommended weight loss programs and diets click here.
